2023 Lone Star Board Ballot

This poll has ended (since 3 years).

2nd Vice President

I am a 67-year-old with severe hemophilia B. Over the course of 30 years, I have served the Bleeding Disorder Community in various positions. I serve as the Treasurer of the chapter for two years in the early 1990’s and then as President for two years. I was elected as an NHF regional director to the NHF Board of Directors and served as VP of Chapter Affairs for two years. I was then elected to serve as President of NHF Board of Directors for two years. After a break to recover from three orthopedic surgeries I was asked to serve on the interim Board of Directors for NHF after the board voted to dissolve itself. I was elected to the NHF Board of Directors and served two terms as Vice Chairman and then served three terms as Chairman of the NHF Board of Directors. During this 30-year period I have also served on numerous committees and currently serve on two working groups for the NHF. The skills I bring to the Lone Star Bleeding Disorders Chapter are an understanding of leadership and service to the community. I currently serving as the 2nd Vice President of the Lone Star Chapter, I am seeking your support to continue in this position.

Secretary

I am a 44-year-old mother of three. Two of my daughters and myself are affected by a bleeding disorder. I discovered that my children were affected by Von Willebrand’s when they were 7 and 4 years old and I became a member of the Lone Star Chapter immediately. When I joined the Lone Star Chapter 8 years ago, I felt so welcomed by everyone. I felt like I finally was able to understand what my daughters were going through. As I started to understand more about bleeding disorders I became an advocate for us all living with a bleeding disorder. I was honored to become an ambassador for Texas Bleeding Disorder Coalition two years ago. Every year that passes I am more involved with The Lone Star Chapter. I would love to take my involvement in the chapter to the next level by being a board member. I am so passionate about this cause and would be ecstatic to have an opportunity to be a board member.

Trustee

My name is Laura Castillo. I am married to Sam Castillo and a mom to three children, Sammy, Matthew and Victoria. Hemophilia B is hereditary in my family. I am a carrier and our son, Matthew is severe. I have a long history of hemophilia. I have lost uncles and cousins to from complications of hemophilia to AIDS contracted through blood transfusions. I have seen many changes in medicine throughout the years, and am priviledged to live in the time we do, where my son has the opportunity to live with minimal complications and has the support of a loving community. I treasure the support we have received. We have been extremely blessed to be a part of this community and the Lone Star Chapter for 30 years. I have met wonderful people through this journey, and it would be my honor to serve on the board. I would like to give back to this community and help wherever the Lord has me serve. If I am chosen to serve, I will fulfill my role with enthusiasm and joy. Thank you for your consideration.
